Why standard shower curtain sizes fail on non-rectangular bathrooms

The standard shower curtain sizes assume one arrangement: a rectangular bath, against a wall, with a straight rod at 72 in. Any bathroom that departs from that is on its own, which is why wet rooms, corner enclosures, clawfoot baths and loft bathrooms are the ones with towels permanently on the floor.

Four bathroom shapes a custom shower curtain solves

Made to measure solves them because each is a geometry problem rather than a size problem. A clawfoot bath stands away from the wall and needs a curtain on an oval or D-shaped rail with a continuous panel of 180 to 220 in. — no standard curtain is a quarter of that, and the usual bodge of hanging two overlapping ones leaks at both joins. A corner shower needs an L-shaped or quadrant rail with the curtain made in one piece and the corner allowed for in the gather, or it pulls away from the wall at the angle. A wet room has no tray lip at all, so the curtain must finish within an inch of the floor and be weighted, or water runs along the bottom edge and out.

The sloped-ceiling loft bathroom nobody sells for

A sloped ceiling in a loft bathroom is the one nobody can buy for. The rail follows the slope, so the curtain has to be cut on the diagonal at the top — a rectangular curtain on a sloped rail gapes at the high end and drags at the low one. We cut these from a template.

Any cloth in the bathroom range: 200 gsm European Flax linen, 220 gsm organic cotton, 260 gsm cotton waffle, 240 gsm hemp, or the 65/35 contract cloth. Any width to 240 in. in a single piece with no join, and any drop to 108 in. Grommets set at 6 in. centres across the actual width so the spacing is even rather than left over.

Snap-in liner made to match

Every custom curtain is made with the stainless snap studs for a snap-in liner, and we will make the liner to the same dimensions in PEVA, cotton or hemp so the two hang as one.

Measurement and lead time

The process: send the rail length measured along its actual path — round a curve, round a corner, or along the slope — plus the drop from rail to floor and the height of any lip. A template is posted out for sloped and curved work. 14 day lead time.
