Linen shower curtain in 100% flax linen at 200 gsm, stonewashed — the fiber with the highest moisture-release rate of any natural cloth, so it dries fastest between showers. Why linen has been the bathroom cloth for as long as bathrooms have existed There is a reason linen has been the bathroom and kitchen cloth for as long as either room has existed, and it is not aesthetics. Flax has a high moisture regain — it absorbs readily — and, crucially, an unusually high rate of release. It takes water in fast and lets it go faster. Cotton absorbs comparably and holds on; a cotton towel is damp hours after a linen one is dry. What that property does for the outer shower curtain In a bathroom that property does the whole job. The outer curtain in a two-layer hang is not waterproof and is not meant to be; it catches splash and condensation and it needs to be dry again before the next shower, because everything unpleasant that happens to bathroom textiles happens to ones that stay wet. Linen is dry. Linen improves under bathroom conditions It also improves in the conditions that destroy other cloths. Linen gains around 20% in strength when wet, so repeated soaking does not weaken it the way it weakens cotton; and it becomes softer and more supple with every wash, which is why a linen shower curtain that has hung for five years is better than a new one. 200 gsm flax linen, stonewashed This is 100% flax linen at 200 gsm — lighter than our window cloth, deliberately, so it dries quickly and hangs without dragging on the hooks. Stonewashed, so it arrives soft. Undyed or in three pale shades; we do not make it in saturated color, because a dark dye in constant humidity will eventually transfer to a pale liner behind it. Header, grommets, snap studs The header is reinforced double thickness with twelve rustproof grommets at 6 in. centers, and it carries the stainless snap studs for our snap-in liners as standard — so the liner buttons on behind and only this curtain touches the hooks. Machine wash at 40 °C, line dry or tumble low, and rehang it slightly damp — the weight of the wet cloth pulls its own creases out, which on linen is the only pressing it will ever need. Linen releases moisture much faster than cotton, so it’s dry between showers. Cotton stays damp longer and can go musty in a bathroom with weak ventilation. Do linen shower curtains fade in a bright bathroom? Ours don’t — linen has good inherent light-fastness, and we make them in pale tones only (a dark dye eventually transfers to the liner behind).
