Our embroidered throw pillows use double-thread satin-stitch on the outlines and a bound edge behind the pattern (not raw threads), so nothing pulls out of the back or catches on a fingernail.

Two things ruin most embroidered throw pillows

Embroidered throw pillows fail in two consistent ways. First, cheap embroidery uses viscose or rayon thread that goes limp after washing and pills at the pattern edges. Second, cheap embroidery is not backed — the thread ends and loops sit exposed on the reverse of the face fabric, catch on rings and buttons, and eventually pull the pattern out of shape from behind.

Mercerised cotton thread and a bound back

Ours use mercerised cotton thread — the same thread used on tailored shirts, which is dimensionally stable and does not go limp in the wash. And the reverse of the embroidery is bound with a lightweight cotton lining before the reverse of the pillow is joined, so nothing catches from either side. It is the workshop-standard construction, not the volume-manufacturer version.

Where an embroidered throw pillow belongs in a room

Embroidery reads as detail from close up and as texture from three metres away. That is a very different placement job from a printed cushion, which reads as pattern from any distance.
