Why most black throw pillows fade to grey

Black is the colour that shows fading first. A pigment-printed black loses its depth within a season under normal window light — the surface pigment breaks down before the fibre does, and what starts as jet-black ends up grey with brown at the seams. A woven black cushion that fades looks worse than any other colour that fades.

Reactive-dyed at the thread, not surface-printed

Ours are reactive-dyed at the thread, which bonds the pigment into the fibre rather than sitting on top. The dye survives washing and sun in a way surface-printed black cannot.
