Our embroidered pillowcase uses tailor-shirt-grade mercerised cotton thread rather than viscose, so the pattern survives weekly washing rather than pilling into the pillow.

What makes an embroidered pillowcase last vs collapse

Embroidered pillowcases collapse in two consistent ways. The thread pills — viscose and cheap polyester threads go limp after twenty washes and rise as fuzz along the pattern edge. Or the reverse of the pattern is left raw, so the loops on the underside catch on rings and buttons and pull the embroidery out of shape from behind.

Mercerised cotton thread and a bound reverse

Ours use mercerised cotton thread — the tailored-shirt-quality thread — which is dimensionally stable and does not pill. And the back of every embroidered area is bound with a lightweight cotton lining before the pillowcase is closed, so the loops on the reverse are captured and nothing catches.

Embroidery reads as detail from close up and as texture from three metres. On the head of a made bed, it is the piece the eye lands on when you enter the room, so the arrangement centres on it.
