Why coastal is a technical decision, not a colour palette

A coastal bedroom is not a colour scheme, it is a set of conditions. Light comes in hard and low off water and stays on the sofa for hours. Air carries salt and moisture. Rooms sit shut up for weeks between visits. Ordinary throw pillows fail in that environment in three specific ways: they fade on the side facing the window, they never quite dry, and they come back smelling of the room.

Solution-dyed acrylic — the fibre that solves all three

Solution-dyed acrylic is the fibre used for boat covers and outdoor umbrellas — colour added to the resin before it becomes fibre, so the pigment is throughout the yarn rather than on top of it. Rated to 1,500 hours of UV exposure without appreciable fade (five to ten summers, depending on the sun), quick-drying so it will not go musty, and hot-wash safe so it can be scrubbed hard between guests.
