Why pre-shrinking matters on cotton queen bed sheets

Because cotton relaxes in the first few washes, our fitted sheet is cut with that movement accounted for rather than sized exactly to the mattress. Sanforized and pre-shrunk to under 2% residual shrinkage — meaning what you unfold on day one is very close to what you’ll be using for years. A sheet not treated this way starts a size larger and ends a size smaller than the label, which is why so many “queen” fitted sheets stop reaching the corners after the first hot wash.
