Why white is the only maintenance-open throw pillow colour

A throw pillow gets touched more than almost any other cloth in a house. It picks up hand oils, spilt coffee, foundation, dog paws. White is the only colour where the answer to that is to wash the cover at 60 °C, treat marks with oxygen bleach and dry it in the sun — the same treatment that shortens the life of every other colour. Hotels use white on their throw pillows for that reason, not for the look.

True White is the crispest, coolest option — the hotel finish. Off-White is the softer version with a slight warm tint — the safer choice in a room with a lot of natural light. Cream is the warmer white, closer to butter — pairs with timber and brass. Bone is the palest neutral in the range — reads as a soft off-white against colour.

How to keep white throw pillows white

• Wash at 60 °C for a real clean once a month
• Treat marks with oxygen bleach, never chlorine — chlorine weakens cotton fibre
• Wash whites together — with colours they turn grey
• Use less detergent than the scoop suggests to avoid yellowing residue
• Avoid optical-brightener detergents — flatter for a season, chalky after

Do white throw pillows show every mark?

Yes, and that is a feature — you can see what needs washing and wash it, at 60 °C, and the pillow comes out looking new. Coloured throw pillows hide the mark and never fully clean up.

Will white throw pillows turn yellow over time?

Only from detergent residue. Use less detergent than the scoop suggests, and run the occasional cycle with no detergent at all.

Can I use chlorine bleach on a white throw pillow?

No — chlorine works once and then keeps working, thinning the cotton over cycles. Oxygen bleach lifts the same marks without the wear.
