Why cheap linen grommet curtains fail structurally There is a reason good linen curtains are usually pleated and not eyeleted, and it is a structural one. A grommet concentrates the entire weight of the panel onto eight small rings. Linen is a strong fiber but an open weave, so the yarns simply migrate away from the pressure — and within a year the rings sit in slightly enlarged, slightly frayed holes, and eventually one pulls through. The fix: buckram-interfaced header, not a better ring The fix is not a better ring, it is what sits behind it. The top 5 in. of every panel here is interfaced with a woven buckram bonded across the full width before a single eyelet is set. The ring then bears on a laminated three-layer header rather than on a single open weave, and the load spreads across the interfacing instead of concentrating at eight points. It is the same principle as a washer under a bolt and it is what almost nobody does at this price. What you gain: the easiest linen heading to live with What you get in exchange for the extra step is the easiest heading there is to live with. It slides on a rod with no hooks, no track and no rings to thread, it takes about two minutes to hang, and it comes down for washing just as fast — which, on a cloth that genuinely benefits from being washed, matters more than it sounds. The fold: relaxed, not architectural The fold is different from a pleat and worth knowing before you choose. A grommet heading makes a regular, rounded wave rather than the sharp architectural break of a pinch pleat. On linen that reads as relaxed and modern; if you want the formal deep fold, the pleated version is the one.
