Flannel Bed Sheets
$49.99
Flannel bed sheets are the oldest, most reliable answer to getting into a cold bed in January. Our flannel bed sheets are brushed on both sides after weaving, lifting a soft nap that traps a thin insulating layer of warm air against your skin — so the sheet feels warm the moment you touch it rather than making you wait for body heat to build.
Why brushed flannel bed sheets feel warm on contact
A brushed nap works by physics, not marketing. The tiny raised fibres slow the movement of air across the fabric surface, creating a still boundary layer. That boundary layer is heated instantly by your skin and does not blow away, so the sheet feels warm within seconds. Plain woven cotton takes several minutes of body heat to reach the same temperature; flannel skips the wait.
The double-brush finish on both faces of the cloth means the warm hand is present whether you slide in or roll over during the night — no cold reverse side.

Judge any flannel bed sheets by GSM, not thread count — thread count is close to meaningless on a brushed fabric, because the surface has been lifted rather than woven for smoothness. Anything under about 160 gsm will feel thin and pill inside a season; our 190 gsm sits at the sweet spot of warm, durable and still light enough to launder easily.
Flannel bed sheets size guide

Flannel has more loft than a plain weave, so if your mattress is already close to the limit of a standard pocket, check the depth before ordering — the fabric itself takes up room in the corner. For deeper mattresses, browse the deep-pocket options in our full bed sheets collection.
How to care for your flannel bed sheets
Care decides how long flannel lasts. The nap that makes it warm is fragile in the first two washes and durable after that.
- Wash warm on a gentle cycle
- Tumble dry low; remove promptly
- Wash separately for the first cycle or two — new flannel sheds loose nap fibres, which is normal rather than a fault
- Skip fabric softener and dryer sheets — they mat the nap down and the sheets lose the loft that made them warm
- Never use bleach — it degrades the brushed fibres
Flannelette vs flannel — are they the same thing?
Yes. Flannelette is the same brushed cotton fabric under a different name. If that is what you searched for, this is it. Wool flannel is a different fabric — heavier, coarser and not what people mean when they buy flannel bed sheets for a bed.
When to use flannel bed sheets
Best from roughly October through March in a cool bedroom. In warmer months, swap to something flat-woven — a crisp percale sheet set is the other end of the same wardrobe. Layered with a flannel duvet cover and a warm cotton quilt, a good flannel bed set turns a cold bedroom into the warmest room in the house.
Frequently asked questions
Are flannel bed sheets too hot to sleep on?
Only in a warm bedroom. Flannel is designed to trap body heat, so it is at its best in a cold room from autumn through early spring. If your bedroom stays above about 20 °C at night year-round, a flannel bed sheet will feel oppressive; a percale or linen set is the summer alternative.
What GSM should flannel bed sheets be?
170–200 gsm is the sweet spot. Below 160 gsm the sheet feels thin and pills within a season. Above 220 gsm it becomes heavy and slow to dry. Our set is 190 gsm — warm and durable without becoming unwieldy in the wash.
Do flannel bed sheets pill?
Cheap flannel does. Well-made flannel, in combed long-staple cotton and pre-shrunk before hemming, resists pilling because the yarn is smoother and less prone to shedding. Skipping fabric softener and washing on gentle cycles extends the pill-free life significantly.
Can flannel bed sheets be used year-round?
In cool climates or air-conditioned bedrooms, yes. In warm-summer regions, keep flannel for the cold half of the year and rotate to a lighter cotton or linen sheet in summer to avoid overheating.
