Why most round pillow covers look wrong within a month

Round pillow covers fail in one obvious way. They lose their shape. The circle distorts into an oval on the sofa within a month because the manufacturer used a stretched serged edge instead of a piped one — the seam has no structure and gives every time the pillow is squashed. Once distorted, the shape does not come back.

Bias-cut piping is what holds the circle

Ours is finished with a bias-cut cord piping around the circumference. The bias cut means the piping stretches evenly with the cloth rather than at the seams, and the cord inside gives the edge the resistance it needs to hold the circle through years of use.
