The bar: a June sunrise before five

The bar in a nursery is set by one specific morning: a clear day in late June, sunrise before five, and a window facing east. A curtain that is comfortably dark in a bedroom at 10pm can still be bright enough at 5am to end a baby’s night. That is the test this panel is specified against, and it is why nursery blackout is a genuinely harder problem than bedroom blackout.

Cloth spec and OEKO-TEX certification

Cloth is 3-pass acrylic-foam coated at 290 gsm, under 0.5% light transmission through the cloth measured by spectrophotometer at 550 nm, certified to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100. But the cloth was never the difficult part. Light gets into a nursery around the panel, not through it, and the fix is installation: mount at ceiling height, run the track or rod at least 8 in. wider than the frame on each side, use return brackets so the panel meets the wall, and take the length to the floor.

Two safety points, stated plainly

Two safety points, stated plainly because this is a room where they matter. These curtains are entirely cordless — there is no pull cord, chain or looped operating cord of any kind, which is the single most important specification in any child’s room and one that corded blinds cannot match. And the panel should be hung so that a standing toddler cannot reach the hem to pull on it: a floor-length curtain in a cot-side position is a climbing aid, so keep the cot away from the window.

Sizes and undyed palette

Lengths 63, 84 and 96 in., in grommet or rod pocket. Undyed and pale colours only — Alabaster, Bone, Fog Grey, Sage, Blush and Clay — because a saturated dye on a nursery panel is the thing parents most often regret when the room is redecorated at three years old.

When a nursery blackout curtain is not enough

If your window is bay, awkward or unusually wide, a curtain will not get you to the standard above. A fitted blind with side channels will, and the skylight and peel-and-stick blinds in this range use exactly that principle.

Machine wash cold, hang to dry, and expect to wash it more often than any other curtain in the house.
