Quilted is padded, not printed

A quilted table runner is a proper three-layer construction: face cloth, cotton batting, backing cloth, stitched through in a pattern. The result is substantially thicker and softer than a flat cloth — and unlike a printed “quilted-look” runner, it actually insulates the table surface from hot dishes.

The construction that matters

Face: 100% cotton, patterned or solid. Batting: 4 oz cotton (not polyester — poly compresses flat). Backing: matching cotton. Stitched in a diamond or channel pattern with a colour-matched thread. Machine-washable at 30 °C on gentle.

Does a quilted runner protect the table from hot dishes?

Yes — 4 oz cotton batting insulates from typical hot serving dishes. Not a substitute for a trivet under a scorching pot straight off the hob.

Cotton or polyester batting — does it matter?

Cotton keeps its loft; polyester compresses flat within a year. Ours is cotton.

Can I iron a quilted table runner?

No — ironing flattens the quilting stitches. Steam gently if you must.
